Droid Charge

Verizon's second LTE phone is now available. The Droid Charge is a worthy entry in Verizon's ever expanding Android portfolio. It is also a worthy competitor to break the HTC Thunderbolt's LTE monopoly.

The Charge is big and hefty with a 13mm thick plastic chassis sporting a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display. The Charge's display sets it apart with inky blacks and vivid colors and bests its older cousin, the Galaxy S series with a four sub-pixel count. Beneath the display are four honest-to-goodness physical buttons. It also sports a highly adept eight-megapixel camera as well as a front facing camera. Internally, the Charge sports a run-of-the mill 1GHz processor (single-core) but still shows exemplary performance on a TouchWiz ridden Froyo OS. The Charge's battery life, however, is its main selling point. The Charge easily powers through two full days on a single charge and erasing all doubt about the origin of its namesake. The main drawback to the Charge is the $300 subsidized price which catapults it above the likes of the $200 16GB iPhone 4 and its $250 LTE brother-from-another-mother, the HTC Thunderbolt. Despite its repelling price, the Droid still ends up a compelling phone.
